I agree.

But that's Big Power politics and they are gonna have to get used to it: nations generally follow their own best interests.

And, with the US consumer's dominant position as end-buyer of China's output, not to mention the myriad of other pressure points, it's not like the US is lacking for cards in it's hand either.

Not if its PUBLIC but quiet BEHIND THE SCENES DIPLOMACY that does not require the Chinese to lose face certainly could work. WE are CHINAS largest trading partner, believe me we are VERY important to them. jdn
