Many friends have told me how beautiful the North West is. What I have seen of it certainly is. If the life blood of the region is that polluted then the people of the area are at great risk. Animals are not given a choice about the level of risk they desire.

I am also familiar with the overuse and runoff of herbicides and pesticides. In the past twenty years the amount over applied has declined. Today there is very little overuse of chemicals because the chemicals costs have increased dramatically. For instance most agricultural fertilizers are petroleum products. The same market force that has raised our gasoline costs has raised fertilizer costs.

EPA, Army Corps, does it really matter? They are both inefficient government bureaucracies. Both have their own angle on what needs doing. Neither is as efficient as I would be or as thorough as you would be.

I hope that the region can be cleaned up efficiently. The Great Plains have their share of problems, but we are not tied to a polluted main water source .
