Thanks Rose ... There is real concern regarding South Africa ... The stadiums are nowhere near being ready, the transportation between the sites does not exist, and the local people cannot afford the tickets. I remember when the 1986 World Cup was scheduled for Colombia of all places. There were fears of terrorism and the site was switched to Mexico (I think in 1984 or even as late as 1985) where the stadiums were ready because of the tournament having been held there in 1970. This event has grown exponentially since 1986. The Germans have set an incredible bar. Did you see how beautiful the stadiums were this time? Brazil, the greatest soccer nation, has repeatedly requested the games. But it does not have the stadiums. There's already talk of the 2010 World Cup being moved to Australia. It would be great for this glorious tournament to return to South America. The Argentines shamed the continent, though, when the military government put on a horrendous show in 1978. Many argue that the junta either paid off or put fear into the Peruvians and, as a result, Argentina got to the final against Holland only because Peru let Argentina win 6-0 when Argentina had to win by 4 goals. Strange politics have always affected this phenomenal spectacle.
