However, I disagree with your statement that the consensus scientific view is that the gulf stream is largely responsible for the present relatively warmer climates in western Europe and England. Skimming through a few research articles on "atmospheric heat transport" on Google indicates that many atmospheric scientists believe that the atmosphere plays the largest part in warming in the higher latitudes.

We are still slightly misunderstanding one another, Alastair. I'm not contending that I know the "gulf stream warming western Europe and England" is the scientific consensus. I don't know enough about the science to make that argument. I'm only noting that the author of the piece you posted assumes it is the consensus and he wishes to attack it because it is so.

So your argument is with him; not with me.

In this one, I am simply the innocent bystander.
