Uncaring and indiscriminate vengeance is understandable, but not a great basis for international peace.

And it's an especially poor idea if you're thumping proxies for their race and religion at the same time as trying to tell them, "We're not declaring war on you for your race and religion".

Although it's strange how this point seemed to have been missed, so many times...

(BTW, visceral is a great word to say. IMO.)
