Ephud:

Conroe lost SPECfp2000 crown for x86 outright with Sun's new x4600 Galaxy4 server with 4 Opterons having a SPECfp2000 score of 3538. That's higher than previous champ, Power5+'s SPECfp2000 score of 3518. That same server with 8 Opterons has the top end 16 core AMD64 scores in both SPECint2000_rate and SPECfp2000_rate of 277 and 231 respectively.

Besides, 65nm will be out in Dec, 2006 and that's only 5 months away. Intel will have red ink in Q2 unless they pull an Enronesque cooking of the books. Ditto for Q3. After the stockholders and institutions see how the current strategy is hurting them, Intel may have to raise prices or management will be sacked.

As for AMD, while Intel gushes red, AMD will stay profitable as unit volume will increase greatly upping both unit and revenue share.

Pete
