EMC gets antitrust nod to acquire RSA Security
Mon Jul 31, 2006 12:58pm ET

WASHINGTON, July 31 (Reuters) - Data storage maker EMC Corp (EMC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) has received U.S. antitrust approval to acquire the digital security company RSA Security Inc. (RSAS.O: Quote, Profile, Research), U.S. officials said on Monday.

Antitrust authorities completed their review of the nearly $2.1 billion deal without taking any action to block it, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission said in a notice.

On June 29, EMC agreed to buy Massachusetts-based RSA Security as part of its strategy to diversify into software. RSA sells key-chain-sized SecurID devices that businesses use to control access to computer networks.

RSA is one of more than 80 companies being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission for its practices of granting stock options to executives.
