From my recollection in California's urban environments it wasn't that hard to get ahold of shrooms....

Not all 'shrooms grow off cow patties. There are many varieties of shrooms all over the nation and the world. I used to pick them in Bastrop myself in the late '60's and early '70's, the cow pattie variety. They'd grow off the patties of grain-fed cattle.

I'm very leery of picking types I think I've seen, but only know from a book. Some highly poison types resemble some magic types, and all you need to do to kill your liver and/or kidneys is to pick the wrong kind once.
