I can think of a half dozen reasons for this, and none of them have to do with lack of marital assets gathered from a divorce. You might also want to look at credit factors banks use in determining loan qualifications, and even criteria used by landlords when renting housing.

There was a line in a popular song several years ago, "she's living like a queen on alimony, while I'm working two shifts to eat balognia."

It isn't politically correct to say such things nowadays, though. In fact, it might get the entire feminist mafia after me!
