I looked up the Shah of Iran on a search engine a few days ago. He may not have been perfect, but I didn't see weekend public square stonings, women in burquas, body parts cut off, including heads, and all the etcs that we have come to think of when we think of many places in the Middle East.

The people in the 1970's were pretty upbeat in Iran, or at least I remember it that way from National Geographic Magazine.
