Oh well I don't think I've ever seen the democrats do anything like that. Have you? So perhaps a swing to the left will greatly minimize the prevalence of such talk.

I'm afraid the political benefits of doing this become so obvious it gets very hard for the next round of winners to back off. Maybe I am just hoping and projecting but I think it's backfiring. "Us against them" only works if you want to be one of "us". "Us" seems to be, more and more, composed of people who don't believe in evolution or separation of church and state, who want to ban abortion and oppose even civil partnerships for gays, who like the idea of rounding up 11 million illegals and putting them into concentration camps before dumping them God-knows-where and breaking up their families. I just don't think it's a pretty picture. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think so.
