Since Jim and Karl each said "to each according to their/his need," I questioned why you introduced "to each according to their/his means."

Since Jim said "from each according to his means" and Karl said "from each according to his ability," your electing to make a point of the differentiation of the difference between "means" and "ability" would make sense to me.

But your riff on the differentiation between "need" and "means" on the "to" side of the equation, where everyone was talking "need" so there was no conflict, struck me as odd, which is why I asked where you were coming from. The "means" came from left field and those things tend to make me curious.
