Dick, there are a lot of diverse opinions out there on how bright the future is. I happen to think it looks pretty good, barring some unforeseen disaster, but a lot of "entities" don't think that way. I would say that "official" analyst pessimism is running pretty high right now. One report I just posted by CSFB says they think order peaks are in this quarter and next quarter.

West buzz kill

As the IC equipment community huddled at Moscone Center, many semiconductor equipment stocks slid in Nasdaq trading thanks to a research note by Citigroup analyst Timothy Arcuri, according to an Associated Press report.

In the note, Arcuri said his trip to West suggested that the industry has topped out for the cycle, according to the report. Arcuri said most vendors have scaled back fourth quarter order or shipment forecasts by 10 percent in recent weeks, according to the report.>>
