In the Hamas case I would say knocking out the Gaza power station is an over-reaction. In the Lebanese case bombing Beirut airport and other actions are an over-reaction - what do they achieve in terms of military objectives? Not much that I can see - mainly seem to be just for show. Both groups have been firing missiles at Israel mostly ineffectively though the Hizballah missiles are much better. So Israel needs to attack back obviously but this seems like an unneccessary escalation. I've always been towards the right wing of Israeli politics (I lived there for 5 years and my mother, brother etc. live there now) but often thought Israeli military tactics were counterproductive, much as the US invasion of Iraq has been counterproductive.
