Don't you think it all started with Zionist terrorists entering Palestine in 1948 as a triggering point? Good points Don. I too am old enough to remember a different era before arab terrorists were attacking Western interests. Funny, but the arab terrorists really didn't become a threat to our own country until we started meddling directly in their affairs during the Gulf War in 1990-1991. Is there a connection, yes. I definitely see a connection. The former Soviets have been replaced by the arabs as enemy #1 of Western global hemogeny.

I'd say we started kicking over their tea wagon before then, but perhaps not quite as aggressively. Around the Iran Contra era, we were playing a lot of games along the lines of "let's you and him fight". We'd publicly support one side, while secretly arming the other, along with lots of oil related dirty deals. I'd also say increasing influence of Israeli lobbiests over US foreign policy was a factor dating back much further, and is getting worse by the second. I don't know if it's possible to draw a line in the sand where the turning point occurred, but America's failure to respond to Israel's deliberate attack on the USS Liberty might be a good place to start. It sent a message to the Arab world that we'd support any Israeli act of aggression no matter what the cost to America. Israeli involvement in 9/11 is well documented. As big a boon as 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq was to Western oil interests, it was a huge win for Israel as well. Take a look at this week's headlines and look where 140,000 US troops have been practising the art of war for the past three years. lib.utexas.edu Hmmm... but the program is to start shifting troops out of Iraq anyway. Right? Tear Iraq up with civil war and you have a standing army right at the gates of Damascus.
