Perhaps we would have had a natural melting pot of Arab and Jew living in peace?

Not fripping likely. Ever heard of Haj Amin al Husseini, the Grand Mufti? Why don't you check out his career?

The Arabs were not passive reactors. They made choices too, and their choices left them with a turbanned Nazi as their ruler, who prevented the emergence of a civil society by assassinating anybody who looked like he might become a rival.

Yes, I am Jewish. I make no secret of that.

One can certainly posit that the immigration of Jews to Palestine created some local problems, and if it had never happened, the region of Palestine would have continued to be what it had been for the previous few hundred years, a backwater province of Syria.

But to be fair, Syria has not exactly had a blissful and problem free last 100 years. But the Arabs are never fair, and they have spent the last 60 years blaming Israel for all their problems. Seriously, of all the problems of the Arab world, which ones would have been solved if Israel had never been, or fell into the sea tomorrow?

However, done is done. The Jews are there and they have been there for generations. They are Israelis. They are no longer Russians or Iraqis or Iranians or wherever their ancestors came from. No other country in the world, no matter how messed up, has to keep fighting for the legitimacy of its continued existence. And Israel is not messed up, it is a highly successful country, which is exactly the problem with it, as far as its neighbors are concerned.
