re: I don't know what anyone can do about Putin. He doesn't like democracy and he isn't at all interested in discussing issue. Plus no one has any leverage over Russia any more. Their economy and finances are improving thanks to oil. The only good thing is that eastern Europe is free. I am afraid Russia itself is a lost cause. I keep thinking we could just threaten the oil producing countries with conservation. Put up a bill that requires all cars to get 50 MPG in five years, and tell the bad actors that we will pass it unless they reform. With 25% of the worlds consumption, passing that bill would cost these guys $Billions overnight. Oil conservation is the only leverage we have left... Bush has painted us into a corner, there is no respect for our military anymore. And we are a huge debtor nation, the bad guys own us.
