Well if the descriptions one reads about North Korea in various papers are at all accurate, common sense tells me that knowledgeable North Koreans would like to be part of the normal world. Furthermore, Koreans run away to China at great risk to themselves and their families back home. That indicates something there is really wrong.

We know things are not good in N. Korea so why don't the people revolt?

I don't know. Maybe the few who have "revolted" on a small local scale were sent to labor/death camps, and the remainder got the message. Revolt = your sucky life gets even worse. But as I said, I don't know.
