Either something was wrong with the combine, or the harvester threw a lit cigarette into the stubble.

We have stubble fires every year.

That stuff is tinder dry, and it doesn't take much to spark a fire. My understanding is it's usually a spark from one of the grain trucks that is the cause, not the combine.

Any harvester who smokes in the cab of a combine would be a fool.
