I haven't fished the Bighorn since the 70's Oral. At that time the Crows felt that the river was their river. We would put the boat in at the after bay and float until we saw a particular bridge.

We always stopped on the way up and left a key and some money because an Indian friend would pick up the truck and it would be waiting for us when we got to the above mentioned bridge.

The trick was the high water mark. We stayed within it and the Indians didn't shoot us. I could see them on the cliffs with rifles at rest. It was settled by the US Supreme Court.

I always felt that the Indians knew that we took care of the Bighorn and really cared for it also.

Bighorn was taken by someone else so I added an L.

The fishing was unbelievable in those days. Browns and Rainbows were really large. The river is tamed by Yellowtail Dam. It backs up all the way into Wyoming.
