The trouble is many Muslims in the US would rather not identify themselves as such.

They do. The other day a Muslim advocate was denouncing the action of a US airport security official who took a Muslim passenger to a side booth and made her take her hijab off from her head. he was looking for any concealed weapon in her hijab.

I do not support such a treatment meted out to a Muslim woman by a man. But at the same time, that advocate on TV should have also denounced the violent path adopted by the Al Qaeda as a way of solving political disputes. He refused to do so when prodded by the TV host.
