And we know from experience that if the authoritarian partisans aren't given space to bash way at their enemies, they howl like banshees.

I've been having what I consider a constructive time reading about the period of English history between James II and William and Mary, which includes Charles I, Oliver Cromwell, and Charles II.

Not to mention a cast of characters which includes the beginning of Whigs vs. Tories, the Levellers, various factions of Parliamentarians, and some baby-steps towards English democracy, culminating in the Act now called the Bill of Rights of 1689.

Very instructive on today's political differences. Thank God for democracy and the Constitution, everybody can howl like banshees at each other without resorting to Kassam rockets.
