Only the other day the leader of Hamas, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, offered a permanent "ceasefire" if Israel returned to the pre-1967 borders. If he's serious, and I'm sure he is, then it seems like a good deal to me. Ultimately the argument has to be settled by discussion. It is a myth to believe that war offers any answer, likewise any "unilateral" imposed solution.

Like anyone else for that matter. But somewhere along the line Israel will have to trust its neighbours and Israelis will have to live side-by-side with everyone else in the region. Apartheid was a failed policy in South Africa -- it was a good idea in theory but created only hatred and bitterness in practice. I have already given you my opinion elsewhere that ethnic cleansing will not work. So, as I see it, Israel will have to bite-the-bullet and "deal with the Devil" because the Palestinians are not going away. Hell, man, with the money Israel has spent on its military and its various wars Israel could have paid handsomely for all the West Bank and other land that it may have wanted -- and the Israelis would have lived like kings in the area. Can you not see that the present policy is a disaster for all concerned, including Israel?

=== "Searle they only settlement that Arabs offered to Israel so far involved elimination of Jewish state and all Jewish settlements in the Middle East." ===

Why is it that Arab "offers" almost always come in the form of violence and war, and atrocities against women and children?

Prior to September 2000, the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank had a higher standard of living than the general Arab populations outside of the area. Palestinians had tens of thousands of good paying jobs inside Israel. But, peace was not on these Arab's agenda, and the Arabs started another war against the Jewish families of Israel.

How can anyone have a true peace when there are so many among the Arab/Muslim populations who are more interested in killing Christians, Jews and Hindus, rather than providing for their own families?
