The U.S. State Department has set up a Lebanon U.S. State Department Task Force to help get evacuation information to Americans in Lebanon.

The call center telephone number is 1-888-407-4747

If you have family/friends there who need to evacuate or that you are concerned about you can call this number and provide them with pertinent information.

The Task Force person can check the embassey lists to see if they are registered with the embassey in
Lebanon. If not registered they can use the information you provide to register the person and to try to contact them.

The person, I talked with said the main thing is to have cell phone numbers and e-mails for the Americans in Lebanon. This enables them to get information to the individuals and establish contact.

Addresses where they were staying also important.

(Note: I initially got through by calling the State Department at 202-647-4000 in Washington.) I was then transferred to the Task Force instantly.

Think about the response to get Americans out. 6 days into the situation --began last Wed.

First few days no one was too excited about leaving.

By Sat or Sunday, people were thinking more seriously.

--Did the US Embassy know how many Americans were in Lebanon?
--Were they all registered?
--How long does it take to contract with ships to get the people?
--How long does it take to get to the loading zone?
--How long does it take to get the ship/ships supplied with food, water, and restrooms and supplies? Blankets, cleaning, and first aid supplies, etc...
--Will there be US Naval ships standing guard?
--Once they get to the destination, where will the people go?
--Are there places to stay until their next point of departure is reached?

--How do they/and we know that the people that get on the ship are actually passengers, and not terrorists?

Lots to think about in just a few days....

Perhaps the people who are complaining the loudest are the ones who have never given a thought to the consequences of Hezbollah kidnapping Israeli's and sending missiles over to the Israeli homeland.

I can't disagree with the comments about the US State Dep't. My experiences with them suggest they ae possibly the most useless organization on the planet (and that includes the UN).

Second, Israel has stated it is blocking exits from Lebanon to stop Hezbollah from moving the kidnapped Israeli soldiers to Syria or Iran. I find it hard to fault them for this. The Hezebelloah invasion of Israeli territory and killing and capturing Israeli questions was unquestionably an act of war. The farcical claim that Hezbollah is not the Lebanese gov't is laughable; they are part of it. According to Larry King last night, the IDF is being careful not to shell or bomb Christian portions of Beirut.

I generally do not side with Israel, but in this case they are right. All Hezbollah or Hamas has to do to end their portions of this fight is release its captives. THEY are the ones keeping this going.

Anybody notice there has been NO MENTION of the Iranian nuclear program since started? How convenient! Maybe a little too convenient?
