We started a civil war and the civil war needs to be played out.

And what do you call the minority Sunnis dominating the majority Shi'a, as well as the Kurds..

They are Iraqis too.. Or are supposed to be..

In essence, there has always been a civil war in Iraq. It's just that the Sunnis held most of the power.

A minority cannot rule a majority forever. And when that minority loses power, it's inevitable that the majority is not going to be very forgiving.

But a democratic system, and established rule of law that protect minority rights is the only means by which that civil war can thwarted.

It's imcumbent upon the US to continue to act as an honest broker between the various factions, while supporting the government's monopoly on a standing army and police powers.

I'm open to any fair and just alternatives that do not include democratic reforms that you might have though since you seem to think the fledgling democracy in Iraq is a fraud.
