The big difference is that true liberals are against the death penalty and do not believe in the use of force to solve problems.

An abhorrence of using force is the mark of the pacifist, not the liberal. Liberals are more tolerant, but there is nothing in liberalism prohibiting force to solve, for example, the problem of an invasion of our territory.
