<<I love the little California quail that live in our area.>>

We used to have the bobwhites but they are gone now, same with pheasants. Now we have deer, coyotes and geese.

My friend runs the sanitary district. 20 years ago the district bought 500 acres of farm ground to spread sludge on. Lots of corn after corn to use the nitrogen but about 200 acres went into rows of trees. Left one area that didn't get the sludge and tree growth is about 1/4 of the areas that did. The trees were planted close, maple, ash, walnut to encourage upward growth. The plan is to harvest the maple and ash in a few years then let the walnuts grow to be sold as veneer logs. So far it's looking good. He also put up towers with nesting platforms for the raptors.
