I recall that Yahoo actually encouraged multiple aliases once they decided to not expend resources ferreting out the multiple-personality users.

It's easy to see why given the scale they are dealing with. The inexact nature of the beast causes it to be a very labor intensive process especially if you don't do credit card validation or something else to deter casual registration.

It also seems less "important" since stock/investment boards are only a fraction of their overall message board universe.
