I agree with you. Completely.

In which case, really, what is the excuse for a national blockade, shelling the airport, etc? If this is not an act of war, does it make it OK? Or is it fine because Israel knows Lebanon is too weak to respond?

Are you being intentionally dense tonite, or this morning, or whatever time it is on your side of the pond? They consider themselves at war with Hezbollah, not Lebanon.

Please, grant me credit.

Good grief. The Minutemen aren't an organized militia out to wipe Mexico off the map, they don't enter Mexico and blow people up, even once, let alone for decades. If they accidentally or on purpose shot a couple of Mexican border guards, as in your example, they'd be prosecuted for murder and the group would be out of business.

If you're going to speak on behalf of Israel in this kind of action, expect to feel at least a little discomfort

And what am I saying on behalf of Israel? If you deem it fitting to suggest that I would be "happy" about any of this, then you've concocted some strawman because I didn't say anything to warrant that. The only support I have given Israel in this is to express my opinion that I doubt they could be uncivilized enough to target civilians or be cavalier about their collateral damage. I don't know that for a fact, it's just my sense of Israel as a civilized country. You don't know for a fact that they are targeting civilians, either. There's no way we can know and we have different senses of them. At most you could criticize me for naivete.

My comment did not arise from discomfort. I assure you I experienced no discomfort. I was challenging the logic of your inferences and your form of expression.

re: "If Minutemen decide to act against Mexican border troops (within Mexico!), that is surely entirely equivalent to Hezbollah acting against Israeli troops within Israel? Seems a very fair comparison, to me."

But the Minutemen are not bombing Mexican Cities nor entering Mexican territory attacking, killing and capturing Mexican soldiers.

Your argument would be more valid, if you substitute the minutemen with the Republican or Democratic Party. If the Republican (or Democratic) Party had a armed militia which happened to be bombing Mexican Cities (and getting caught supplying rockets to the Rebels in the Chiapas region of Mexico) - that would be the equivalent of Hezbollah attacking Israeli troops within Israel.

Hezbollah also happens to be a Political Party in Lebanon. It has 28 seats in the Lebanese Parliament and two Ministers in the Government of Lebanon. So members of an organization which is a part of the Lebanese Government, happens to have a military wing which is attacking Israel.
