<we did not unilaterally invade Iraq> A unilateral attack is one that is taken by one side. If a gang attacks you on the street as you are walking along, it is a unilateral attack. It does not matter how many people are in the gang.

The US failed to win the support of the UNSC for an invasion and so it acted unilaterally. As has been pointed out by others, the head of the UN said the invasion was illegal.

Beyond the illegality, and the sleazy way the invasion was promoted, the invasion was a stupid idea and it was incompetently implemented. Throw in torture, secret prisons and the rest of it and you have an administration in Washington that has done enormous harm to our national security while at the same time attacking those things we hold so dear -- Human rights, democracy, freedom and the rule of law.
