there are a bunch of analysts that issued buys going into the quarter and citi and piper have apple on their focus list, which is new, in the last 3 weeks. Either these 2 were blindsided by the possibility of no new ipods going into the fall or they expect blockbuster mac sales. Everybody knows ipods are weak.

How many power macs would you say apple sold prior to this quarter? I didn't realize that was a big contributor to the mac numbers. Mac numbers were raised this quarter midway through from about 1.1 million to 1.25 million by various analysts and they knew the Pro model was not selling then, right?

One other thing is that the free ipod promo which was started in June probably added a few hundred K ipods to Apple's June quarter since those need to be bought and refunded. Seems like a popular promo.

>>I don't see how they can possibly beat consensus estimates given a growth slowdown in iPods and essentially non-existent PowerMac sales this past quarter. I can't imagine that Macbook and MacBook Pro sales have made up the difference.<<

Dave -

Don't forget the iMacs and Mac Minis. The former, at least, is probably a solid contributor.
