It is a naive mistake, for example, to blame the Lebanese government for not disarming Hezbollah Good post. I think Harper was too quick to jump on the Israel has a right to defend itself Bandwagon vis a vis Lebanon.. It is a different situation than Gaza.

So what should Israel have done? Who should the responsibility for the safety of Israelis fall upon? It is easy to say, that faced with hundreds of missiles, Israel should have taken a path of peace. BUT, faced with an enemy whose stated objection is the destruction of their country, I think Israel is being rather restrained. If the heads of the governments of Syria and Iran are working to support the Hezbollah and supplying the weapons and some of the troops that are being used then I submit that the heads of their governments are legitimate targets of the Israeli military, and should they be supporting terrorism, then they should be subject to execution.
