Which is true. Although it is fraught with caveats, this is similar to Vietnam. There too we weren't losing. But we weren't winning either. Like in Vietnam, once our people got off the firebases, all bets were off. While usually nothing much happened, suddenly things could change. And you never knew when or where.

Apparently there are some who believe that we were winning in Vietnam and we lost only because we withdrew. I can only guess that they are of that opinion because it is clear we weren't losing there. And if you aren't losing, then you must be winning. But there is a third state...

And that's the problem.......if you don't clearly lose, down the road, the neocons and the harrises will claim we could have won if we had stayed one more year. That's why we need to have a national discussion on this issue........a kind of townhall on this and many other topics. I really sense that this country has lost its way and that we are not anywhere near of one mind. I think if we continue on the present course, we will end up splintering maybe into many pieces much like Yugoslavia.
