the Israelis have decided to launch a ground ofensive into Lebanon to take out Hezbollah rocket sites.

I think they decided to do so days ago, when they hit all avenues of resupply for Hizbollah in Lebanon.

However, launching a ground offensive into Lebanon will get a response from Syria.

And Syria will get hammered. We'll then see if the Iranian pledge to Syria, a secular regime, is worth anything. Thus far, the costs to Syria and Iran in having Lebanon's fragile state and infrastructure demolished are negligible, which is fine by them.

We'll see how committed they are when their own chestnuts are in the fire. The calculation has been presumably made.

There will be a lot of reluctance on the part of Sunnis to help the Shias so the conflagration may be limited to Syria and Iran. That's a tall order for Israel to deal with on its own.
