I am reminded of a computer simulation I read about, an early example of game theory on a computer.

Programmers competed to design simulated life forms which could be pitted against each other, to see which would win.

The winning bug ate everything in its path.

In a real ecosystem, immediately after it consumed everything else, it would have nothing left to consume and would die. (Consuming itself can't sustain life, either, see Laws of Thermodynamics.)

I view terrorism as analogous. They can win, in the short term, by killing everything in their path, but after that, then what?

Thus, I concede nothing towards terrorism as a process. It's non-Darwinian. They're just opportunistic thugs, exploiting an ecosystem they can't create or sustain.
