I'd guess that they might have better (cheaper) way to create new / dump existing shares. AFAIK their custodian HSBC is the #1 gold dealer.

First mover is indeed a major reason. But class act reporting by State Street Investors is another major reason. The premium/discount is tracked to the spot price not the London Fix.

The Barclays SLV silver ETF site is a bad joke with reporting done close to 2 a.m. e.s.t.

GLD reports at 4:45 p.m. Have no idea when IAU reports because I just can't bother with even going to their site.
