Private universities like mine deal with tenured professors through the pay mechanism. They give you tenure but don't promise anything on the pay side. They don't raise the pay of underperforming profs which with inflation reduces their real salary. Then they have some nuclear options like reorganizations where they close departments and allow the better profs to reapply for jobs in other departments. State Unis and schools systems are probably cushier in these respects.... Anyway if all goes to plan I will voluntarily give up tenure and resign. Hopefully not in the too distant future.

It should be no surprise that lumber is getting cheaper - but my what a slide.
