There are three separate bills coming before the Senate. Read them closely.

I don't agree that federal funding for medical research is a bad thing. Private investment as a sole source of medical research can lead only in directions private enterprise may deem "most profitable", and not necessarily in the broader public good. A lot of medical advances have come out of federal funding through grants and work in Universities that was not strictly profit driven.

Other governments have no problem funding in this area and while breakthroughs may be a decade away, if they come they could be dramatic.
