Yes, I have the first generation MBP. Ordered it literally seconds after the announcement came out.

Got upgraded to the 2.16Ghz version free of charge. Posted about that, but it's not relevant right now. Anyway, the battery became a problem only this month. Strange, I know, but true...

Keep an eye on yours and buy Applecare, if you have not already -- to me, getting a loptop without it has poven to be unwise.

All the vendors are having problems with the chinese contract mfg quality. Quanta who makes the Macbook Pros is the largest laptop maker and makes most laptops for Dell and HP. The MBP probably has the same failure rate as every other large vendor.

Sorry to say, when these vendors shifted to the asian mfgs and drop shipping, quality suffered. Dell used to receive all the units from the CMs and burn them in in Austin. No more, and it shows.

I have a lenovo T43 at work and it is as hot as a toaster and has suffered multiple failures including a strange bad spacebar, bad wireless even though it is centrino and bad battery. Its probably the SAME battery as the Macbook pro.

My personal opinion is that all these advancements for things like user-switchable hard drives- which is a very nice feature- really were implemented due to the HIGH FAILURE RATE of these components and a user replaceable unit saves a swap out of the device.
