Given the small resources IRS has for tax enforcement this seems really misdirected. Just thinking.. many professors spend a lot of time supporting particular parties and policies... I guess as long as it is the professor and not the university they keep their tax-exempt status?

In Australia political donations are tax deductible:

But the laws make many donations for education etc. much harder to be tax deductible than in the US.
