As a Canadian, my comments to the US President probably have a weight of about -10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

However, Embryonic Stem Cell research is being done and will continue to be done. IMO, the only question is how much of the related IP will be in foreign hands.

Ultimately there will be treatments. With Bush's policies, US wealth will be transferred to other countries to benefit from those treatments. Hopefully, the countries that receive that wealth will not be major sponsors of terrorism.
