I think that there is a certain complacency in the peoples that you mentioned. "If we ignore it, it will go away." or at least, "hey, this really won't be meaningful to us in our homes in the U.S. for another 20 years, and I'll be dead by then, so let's just go with the status quo".

And I agree, this is not just about israel. However, I believe that much of Europe is lost, with the exceptions of the UK, Spain and Italy.
