The US is apparently only in Iraq when a Bush is in office. Why is that? Why is the entire country being roped into a war that is some kind of private family tiff for profit?

It's obscene.

Israel in the ME is not the same as the US in the world. The US is a relatively open country while Israel is busily figuring out its demographics and trying to keep Jewish rule despite the looming numbers problem. The US has relatively good relations with its immediate neighbors while Israel has lousy relations with many of its neighbors.

I do not hear the US saying that this portion of the world is designated for Americans by God. I do not hear the US jumping up and down (ok some rightwingers are screeching) about the increasing numbers of hispanics.

I do not see the US lobbing missiles into Mexico in order to solve the immigration problem (uh oh, someone might get some bad ideas here).

What I do see is the Israeli government adopting the rhetoric of the Bushies in order to claim all rights for itself. It's laughable that Israel is annointing itself as the saviour of the world against terrorism.

Huh?

I thought that statement by the ambassador was so over the top that I had to look twice to make sure the Israeli ambassador's role wasn't being filled by Bolton.

IMO the Israeli government has become so emboldened by Bush being in office and being out to lunch that it has decided to fix its problems once and for all with an all out war.

Israel is to the middle east what the US is to the world

Hardly. The US is a place where any person on the planet can relocate, live, earn money and integrate as an equal. We integrate people. Israel is a place where only one ethnicity can relocate and make a life, and people of other ethnicities cannot. That's a HUGE difference.
