Why put the blame on religion in general. Atheistic Communism has been responsible for way more deaths than religion. You should also distinguish between which religion you are talking about, Religion, while offering a certain amount of comfort and solace to it's adherents has also over time brought a lot of death and destruction. Often entire cultures were at one time expected to change their beliefs to suit those of the people conquering them. History simply is, no sense challenging it....
