Whats the end game?

Israel wants the fighting to spread to Syria and Iran, with Iraq and 130,000 American troops right in the middle. Then Bush Jr. will have no choice but enter the wider war.

re: But this indiscriminate 'carpet' bombing stinks.

Actually it's not indiscriminate at all. They first targeted the supply lines (Airport, road to Syria, sea blockade), then headquarters, now they seem to be targeting anyone that could do them harm in an invasion. This is very well planned... I've seen that from the beginning. Nothing random here.

Indiscriminate to me means that they are firing on whatever they want and not all that concerned with the impact on Lebanese citizens or the Lebanese gov't. Yes, they did leaflet a neighhorhood just before they bombed it. I guess there is some planning to their bombing.

However, for me, discriminate bombing would mean they were only targeting Hezbollah and its operations.

Israel has a next move planned. It may happen or it may be scuttled. But the first (and continued) attacks on the supply lines is a classic military ground invasion strategy.

Which begs the question we both asked; why strike the Lebanese army? Do they feel there is a threat there if they invade? Whats the end game?

Given that they are attacking none Hezbollah targets and the Lebanese Army, it would seem that Israel has declared war on Lebanon. What you describe up above in your first paragraph is an attack like the US did when it invaded Baghdad. They were very clear what targets they wanted to take out. At end of this if I were the Lebanese gov't, I would present Israel with a big bill and sue them in the World Court if they refuse to pay.
