Ian Smith in Rhodesia once boasted that white rule would last 1000 years there. Demographics said otherwise. So it is in Afghanistan as well. What does "white rule" have to with the demographics of Afghanistan?? There are tribal connections across the borders of both Afghanistand and Pakistan. And religiously, what we're debating here are militant muslims versus moderates. But primarily, Afghanistan is tribal and those tribes HAVE been ruling there little parts of it for over 1,000 years. All we're hoping to do is moderate and unify them via some form of democratic process. Eventually the Pakistani government will either become strong enough to neutralize their own "Hizbullah" style factions, while Afghanistan figures out how to create governmental order out of 30 years of war and chaos, OR the Taliban will continue to be a problem and Afghanistan will continue to face incursions of the sort described in that link.
