There is also the possibility of buying land in Alberta CA. Right now, winter is hell, but soon because of the tar sands, Alberta will pay every citizen a negative income tax. And much of the year will be delightful with global warming.

Closer to home, acreage in West Virginia at 4,000 feet above sea level will remain pleasant in summer and have milder winters.

Georgia has a ton of open land east of I-95. Area has never been hit by a major hurricane.
