Hi michael97123; Re: "I am thinking that if israel does invade by land there wont be anyone to fight with. How about hizbolla taking off their garb and melting back into the general population."

Of course you are correct here. I suspect that Hezbollah will put up some fights, but in this sort of conflict, guerilla war is the natural result. This is why Israel doesn't want to go into Lebanon. Attrition.

I don't think they want to fight with Hezbollah as much as they want to clear them out of Southern Lebanon. As you say, Hezbollah is not exactly a "definable" enemy, which would make a prolonged occupation undesirable.

I think they're looking for the Lebanese Army and or an international force to come in and secure the area so Hezbollah doesn't have its own personal launch pad for rocket strikes into Israel.

If a radical group starting firing rockets into the U.S. from Northern Mexico, I think we'd take pretty much the same action there as Israel is taking in Lebanon.

How about hizbolla taking off their garb and melting back into the general population.

I think the Israelis would be VERY PLEASED with that scenario..

They really don't want to fight Hizbullah if it's going to mean the risk of more of their soldiers dying.

They are more interested in "pulling their fangs" by destroying their weapons, communications, as well as the tremendous "DOCEX" haul that would occur so they can prove without a doubt the nature of the support that Iran and Syria were, as well as their agenda.
