He was a dissident in the Soviet Union - in your book that makes him a "troublemaker". He was jailed for political crimes (not for anything criminal in a decent country) for years. Maybe you don't recall the nature of the USSR - it really was an evil empire.

"accepted him in Israel "just because he was Jewish" - Of course, the country was created to have a place for persecuted Jews to go. 6 million died a few years before the founding of the state because the rest of the world wouldn't take them when Hitler wanted them gone - there was an international conference on the "Jewish" problem at Evian and that was the outcome. Afterward Hitler resolved to destroy them all and felt he had the world's approval. Just like many approve of Israel's destruction today.

nations where people of a particular religious belief are superior

That is the case in all countries with Muslim majorities. As far as Israel is concerned, there was some discussion of whether some of the parts of Israel should become part of the Palestinian Authority instead of Israel - the Israeli Arabs in question strongly opposed giving up their Israeli citizenship and becoming "Palestinian". That indicates that its better to be an Arab in Israel than to be an Arab in the PA, for sure, but it applies to pretty much the whole Arab world.
