Assad is a secular guy and his relationshp with hizbollah is tactical not strategic.

But Assad is not his father. And I think his hold on power in Syria is tenuous at best. The only thing keeping him there is that he provides a unifying element within the Ba'thist party due to the patronage of his father's legacy.

He's also facing increasing pressure from the Muslim Brotherhood, a party that is technically banned in Syria, but represents the fact that 90% of Syria is Sunni, while Assad and the elite are Alawite.
